"The Lord is my strength and my shield;
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him"
my heart trusts in him, and he helps me.
My heart leaps for joy, and with my song I praise him"
~Psalm 28:7
Did your little ones bring their muscles to Vacation Bible School today? If you joined us for opening, you'd probably agree it started looking a little like a muscle competition! With Pastor Rod's encouragement, there was a lot of strength sharing going on in the sanctuary--flexing biceps seemed to be the strength of choice. But, Pastor Rod also talked about how strength can mean other things, too. For instance, how GOD STRENGTHENS US to weather storms the way He strengthened Peter in Matthew 14...or how God strengthened Pastor John and Mathias this morning in the face of eminent fear! Ask your child about the scary creatures Pastor Rod brought into the sanctuary because I cannot even write about them here--I'm going to need to ask Pastor Rod to help me pray about getting some of that extra strength from God starting right now! Yikes!
In music today, Kaylee and the band taught the last of three songs that the children will sing in our VBS Celebration Sunday worship service this weekend at the south campus. We will gather there and share our theme songs from the week with the congregation during our 10:00 am worship service, along with a slideshow of some of our favorite VBS moments. Here's a sneak peek of the kids learning one of the songs:
We still have CDs available at the yellow submarine in the lobby, so if you'd like to purchase one to practice songs at home just stop by before or after VBS!
Under the sea cups were today's snack--blue Jell-O with whipped topping to look just like the ocean with foamy waves. Ask your children what the surprising part about the snack was when they were eating. What a creative way to share a delicious treat! Thank you, snack team!
Another area that continued the theme of God Strengthens Us through the scripture in Matthew 14, Miss Viv's team helped everyone build a boat, complete with a sail. The children had a great time constructing the boat and decorating it to reflect their individual personalities.
The storytelling team dramatized a great tale of learning how important it is to find your strength in Christ and not in the opinions of others by incorporating the story of Peter with our deep sea theme. Many of our children struggle with these feelings everyday--ask your child if the storytelling time made them recall a moment in their own lives and helped them consider it in a new way.
Our Hillcrest Transitional Housing whale may have a tummy ache this evening, but all for a good cause! Did you see how full he was? Thank you for filling him so full of food items for the families who live at there! Tomorrow our whale is looking to clean himself up a bit--he heard that Mr. Bradshaw has been taking pictures and he wants to look and smell his best. Please bring him some hygiene products to help him make himself presentable. If you need some ideas you can find them on the link at the top of this page with the missions list.
We are so proud of the kids for their dedication to Our Redeemer Lutheran Church
in Kansas City! Girls added $159.48 to their donation. Boys added $80.60. The totals made a huge splash today:
Girls - $292.37
Boys - $228.54
These are impressive numbers and we are so excited to be able to tell the children that they are making a difference in their local area! Thank you to all our families for their contributions toward this growing total!
